Healthy Conflict

Conflict is often seen as something that’s bad, especially conflict with those you care about. Conflict is often seen as an issue between two people, making it seen as a problem. The key to healthy conflict is changing the perspective to you two against the issues.

When in conflict, it’s important for everyone involved to:

  • be open to feedback,

  • not yelling at each other,

  • avoiding personal attacks,

  • taking accountability for your actions,

  • and staying focused on the issue at hand.

These can be accomplished by also ensuring that breaks are taken when needed, not bringing up unrelated topics or past concerns, and using “I” statements to express yourself.

Remember that you’re a team and tackling the conflict together, so find the common ground you have to solve the problem together.
